Home of the jewel of the University of California system, affectionately known as Cal, this vibrant city is hopping with excitement also known as Berzerkely for the crazy antics of its citizenry. Nestled in against the East Bay hills, Berkeley has a vast collection of gourmet hot spots for your dining pleasure. At the top of the list is Chez Panisse Restaurant and Café for very fine dining, but make reservations early, weeks to months, cause its popular with the A crowd; Bill Clinton's favors this spot.

Lets start a quick tour of Berkeley in our Virtual limo trip. From any airport we make our way to Berkeley and head up highway 24 and take Fish Ranch Road just after the Caldecaut tunnel. Fish Ranch winds up the back side of the Berkeley hills to Wild Cat Canyon road which crests the top of the hills and winds into Berkeley from the top. We will take a left onto Cyclotron road and descend into the 'University of California at Berkeley' but first we will pass through the Lawrence Berkeley Livermore National labs. If you look to your right you will see large models of the double helix (DNA), a gray whale, and the magnetic core of a large cyclotron used to study the inner workings of the atoms.

As we glide down the hill we pass the Universities botanical gardens, home of a spectacular collection of cacti and a huge stink flower that blooms in the hot house there. At the end of the road is the football stadium which is slowly being ripped in half by the massive fault line, at about 1 inch a year. As we round the stadium to the right we will see a huge Gothic style castle, which is a boys dorm room for the university. Keeping right we will pass the Greek Theater built by Randolph Hearst as a gift to the University! He made a lot of money selling papers in California and gave a lot to Cal. Taking our first left down Hearst avenue, named after Randolf of course, we pass the main campus and end at the California Department of Healths building.

Turning left we round the end of the campus and find top of University street which we will turn down and head to the water front. Downtown Berkeley is centered around University and Shattuck and we pass right through it and the land turns pretty flat. Lots of places to eat and stores to shop in. If you like good Indian food we can stop at any of 20 places along University for every flavor. Three miles down University we find a Sake Factory and we can stop for a tour and a bottle if you like. Up the overpass that crosses the 80 highway we find ourselves near the waters edge of the east bay. You can see a large flat land pouring out into the bay, its landfill and a bird reserve, as well as a dog park, and University sailing club, kite flying zone.

The sky is usually full of kites on the weekends. As we pass the marina and the Marriott Hotel we come to our final destination for cocktail hour at Skates, a fine seafood restaurant that sits our over the water with stunning views of the Golden gate and its bridge. Enjoy the food, your limousine is waiting outside to take you to the next adventure or back to SFO or OAK airports for your return flight home.
